It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the record chasers, are what's still available for a squad that has won it all.

It needed up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if not provided the possibility.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy being given a chance to produce her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not fail again.

If this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the argument supporting championship match pressure. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was considerably tougher to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it was a frustrating experience because it seemed I lacked timing completely," said Healy.

"But once you take the field, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her key asset - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off the opening delivery and from that point the right-hander was in motion.

"An opportunity to go out there and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

When she was dismissed the team required another 66 at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the belief to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if we do, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the last Australia's opponents at this tournament need to hear.

During the last week a sense they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this victory following success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

However although she later admitted those physical issues have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured an international tournament as leader.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
